He said the victim claimed she was stopped and dragged into the suspect’s house by a man known to her before he allegedly covered her mouth with a cloth and raped her.
According to Jasmin, the victim’s stepfather lodged a police report shortly after midnight on Monday after being informed about the alleged sexual assault.
Following the report, police arrested the suspect at about 12.10am in front of the plantation workers’ quarters.
“The arrest was made following a swift operation by personnel from the Bombalai police station together with Sabah Softwood Berhad auxiliary police officers,” he said.
Police also seized several items believed to be linked to the case, including clothing and a mattress, to assist in investigations.
The case is being investigated under Section 376 of the Penal Code for rape.
