SANDAKAN: The Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN), through Naval Region Command 2 (Mawilla 2), will organise the Open Fleet Day 2026 (HTA 26) today (Saturday) and tomorrow (Sunday) at the RMN Base Sandakan and surrounding areas near the Sandakan town waterfront.
In a statement issued on Friday, the organiser said the programme aims to strengthen ties between RMN personnel and the local community while giving the public an opportunity to better understand the navy’s role and assets.

As part of the programme, flypast and aerial demonstration activities involving AW139 (HOM) aircraft will also be conducted around Sandakan town centre from May 8 to 10.
According to the statement, the aerial activities form part of the preparations and events leading up to HTA 26.
The public has been advised not to panic or be alarmed if they observe low-flying aircraft or hear aircraft noise in the surrounding areas during the period.
“The activities have been planned and carried out according to established safety procedures and are under the supervision of the relevant authorities,” it said.
The RMN also expressed appreciation for the cooperation and understanding shown by the public throughout the implementation of the activities.
Residents in Sandakan and nearby districts are invited to attend and enliven the Mawilla 2 Open Fleet Day 2026, which will feature various attractions and activities for visitors.
