21 foreigners detained in Kota Kinabalu operation
The department said stern action would continue to be taken against individuals or parties found harbouring or employing illegal immigrants and called on the public to channel information regarding the presence of undocumented foreigners in their areas. - Pic for illustration only.
Kota Kinabalu: A total of 21 foreigners were detained in an integrated operation under Ops Sapu by the State Immigration Department around the city.

The operation, carried out at three premises, resulted in the arrest and detention of 21 individuals suspected of committing offences under the Immigration Act 1959/63.

“A total of 40 individuals were inspected during the operation.

“Of the 21 foreigners detained, 19 were Filipinos comprising four adult men, nine adult women, five boys and one girl,” according to a statement, Saturday.

 The remaining two detainees were Indonesians comprising an adult woman and a girl. All were suspected of committing offences under Section 6(1)(c) and Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63. 

The operation was part of ongoing efforts by the Sabah Immigration Department to curb the presence of illegal immigrants and ensure compliance with immigration laws in the State.

“The department said stern action would continue to be taken against individuals or parties found harbouring or employing illegal immigrants and called on the public to channel information regarding the presence of undocumented foreigners in their areas. No compromise would be given to any party found violating the law, particularly in matters involving security,” the statement read.
