TAWAU: Twenty-eight foreigners were remanded for four days by the Magistrate’s Court here, Thursday, to assist investigations into an alleged non-existent online stock investment syndicate targeting South Koreans and believed to have operated from four luxury bungalows in the district.
The remand order against the suspects, aged between 21 and 51 and including two women, was issued by Magistrate Dayang Aidaku Amira Aminuddin.

Tawau District Police Chief ACP Jasmin Hussin said the suspects comprised 27 Chinese nationals, including one woman, and a Vietnamese woman who were detained during a 9.20am raid on four luxury bungalows at Bandar Sri Indah, Batu 10, Jalan Apas.
He said the raid was carried out by the Commercial Crime Investigation Division intelligence team of the Tawau police headquarters together with the Strike Team and Task Force of the Internal Security and Public Order Department.
Police seized 33 mobile phones, three laptops and two sets of internet modems believed to have been used in the alleged activities, while further investigations are ongoing to record statements from all suspects, trace remaining syndicate members still at large and identify the network involved.
