Nursery worker claims trial to child abuse charge

Kota Kinabalu: A nursery worker pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here to a charge of allegedly abusing and causing physical injury to a four-year-old girl four months ago.

Siti Nazwa Ahadin, 25, entered the plea before Sessions Court Judge Hurman Hussain.

She was charged with allegedly committing the offence against the minor at Pusat Asuhan Nur in Telipok on Jan 16 this year.

The charge under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, punishable under Section 31(1) of the same Act, carries a fine of up to RM20,000, imprisonment of up to 10 years, or both, upon conviction.

The court fixed June 8 for pre-trial case management and released Siti Nazwa on bail of RM5,000 in two local sureties pending disposal of the case, while Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurul Shafeerah Mad Iskim appeared for the prosecution and counsel Lim Ming Zoong represented the accused.
