PAPAR: Elderly care homes in Sabah continue to face operational constraints despite receiving government assistance, prompting calls for stronger coordination and broader support, said Datuk Julita Majungki.
State Women, Health and People’s Wellbeing (KWKKR) Minister said her visit to the Sri Pritchard Elderly Home in Kinarut highlighted ongoing gaps in funding and basic facilities that require sustained attention.

“Government assistance is provided, but it is not sufficient to fully support operations, and there is a need for more coordinated support involving the community, Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and the private sector,” she said.
She said issues such as water supply at the home will be taken up with the relevant authorities and that the ministry will continue working with stakeholders to strengthen support, including through volunteer programmes, services and financial assistance.
Julita said efforts such as the home’s hydroponic project, where residents grow and sell vegetables like pak choy and coral salad, are important in promoting active ageing and ensuring elderly residents receive consistent care as demand for such services grows.
