JOHOR: A Malaysian couple has been barred from receiving subsidised fuel after they were caught filling about 71 litres of RON95 petrol into containers at a petrol station in Johor Bahru.
The incident went viral after a video was shared on Facebook local page.
The clip showed the couple pumping fuel into several containers placed in the boot of their vehicle.
The petrol was estimated to be worth around RM234.
In Malaysia, it is not allowed to fill large amounts of subsidised fuel into containers without a permit, with limits usually set at around 20 litres.
Such actions are considered misuse of fuel subsidies.
The Ministry of Finance (MOF), in a statement posted on its official Facebook page, said action had been taken against the couple.
Their MyKad access to the RON95 subsidy programme under BUDI95 has been blocked, and the vehicle involved has also been barred.
The Ministry said strict enforcement is needed to prevent abuse and ensure subsidies are used fairly, while urging the public to follow the rules and report suspicious activities.
