PUTRAJAYA: The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) has clarified that the purchase of petrol and diesel into containers at petrol stations is only permitted under specific legal provisions, following a viral issue on the matter.
KPDN enforcement director-general Datuk Azman Adam said on Wednesday that under the Control of Supplies Act 1961, fuel sales are limited to vehicle tanks or to parties granted a Special Permit by the ministry.
He said individuals, companies or organisations intending to purchase fuel for purposes other than vehicle tanks must obtain approval through the Special Permit system to prevent misuse of controlled and subsidised goods.
Purchases under the permit are allowed only for quantities of 20 litres and above at prevailing pump prices, while non-permit holders are only allowed to purchase below 20 litres in containers for emergency cases.
He added that permit holders may use appropriate and safe containers such as drums or plastic containers based on approved conditions, with applications available online via the KPDN Supply Permit System, which is free and open to eligible categories including agriculture, construction and emergency services.
