Kuala Lumpur: A Malaysian man has sparked online debate after criticising an eatery for allegedly live streaming customers while they were dining without consent, raising privacy concerns.
In a post on Threads, user @mar.syikin said he felt uncomfortable being recorded during a meal, adding that the lack of privacy made it difficult to dine peacefully.
The post gained traction, with many netizens expressing similar concerns about businesses using live streams for promotion while inadvertently exposing customers’ faces.
Some users said they would avoid such establishments, while others suggested that if live streaming is necessary, cameras should focus on food, menus or staff instead of customers.
The incident has sparked wider discussion on the balance between marketing and personal privacy, with calls for eateries to be more mindful and respectful of customers’ consent.
