BEIJING: Two major crime networks based in Myanmar involved in cross-border telecommunications fraud have been dismantled, with 16 offenders sentenced to death, China’s top court announced.
The court said trials involving the Ming and Bai families — two of the so-called “four major families” that controlled criminal syndicates in northern Myanmar have been fully concluded.

A court spokesman said 39 individuals received life imprisonment or heavier sentences, including 16 who were handed the death penalty.
He added that the two cross-border armed criminal groups had been completely eradicated, dealing a heavy blow to criminal activities both within China and abroad.
Chinese authorities had earlier confirmed that several senior members of the syndicates were executed on Jan 29 and Feb 2.
