LABUAN: Member of Parliament Datuk Suhaili Abdul Rahman expressed deep concern over the out-of-order of both X-ray baggage scanners at the airport here.
He said it reflected poorly on Labuan and urged Malaysian Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) to treat the matter seriously by having the machines repaired urgently
“I called the Customs Department immediately when I read the report in Daily Express and was informed that the scanners belonged to MAHB and the manual checking of baggage was for security reasons,” he said.
He commended the Labuan Chinese Chamber of Commerce for highlighting the issue and bringing it the attention to the higher authorities. “The Chamber was doing its job.”
Suhaili said air travellers should not be made as if being punished, noting that while some baggage were easy to check, some strapped or sealed were quite an inconvenience for the travellers.
