Kota Kinabalu: The Muslim World League (MWL) distributed food baskets to underprivileged families across Sabah during a two-day humanitarian programme from Feb 12-13, part of the organisation’s Ramadhan relief initiatives.
The MWL is an international Islamic organisation based in Makkah that conducts humanitarian and relief programmes worldwide.
The distribution programme, MWL Malaysia Director Dr Mohammed Ahmed Gharawi, targeted several locations in Kota Kinabalu. Each basket contained essential food supplies for families in need during the fasting month.
Gharawi was accompanied by two representatives from the MWL headquarters in Makkah, Administrative Specialist from the Office of the Deputy for Relief, Care and Development Ahmed Abdulwahab Khalil and Hossam Youssef Ezzeldin Mohamed, Systems Analyst from the same office.
The delegation held a courtesy visit with the Sabah Mufti to discuss institutional cooperation on community welfare and religious matters. Strategic meetings were also conducted with local non-governmental organisations, including Pertubuhan Islam Seluruh Sabah and Hidayah Centre Foundation.
These discussions focused on coordinating humanitarian outreach and developing structured assistance programmes for vulnerable communities in the State.
Malaysian celebrity Atu Zero participated in the distribution activities, helping to raise public awareness about supporting families in need during Ramadhan.
The visit included discussions on potential long-term collaboration between MWL and local stakeholders in areas such as food security, educational support, capacity-building initiatives, and sustainable welfare programmes for underserved communities in Sabah.
