KOTA KINABALU: A total of 71.3 tonnes (71,352.69kg) of surplus food was rescued nationwide during Ramadan 2026 through the Ihsan Food Bank (i-FB) initiative led by the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN).

Its Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali said the food was collected mainly from 119 Ramadan bazaars across the country, with the involvement of 2,875 volunteers, before being redistributed to those in need.

Of the total, Sabah recorded 2.6 tonnes (2,675.74kg) of rescued food, which was channelled to vulnerable groups around the State through coordinated efforts involving strategic partners and volunteers.

“Food that would otherwise end up in landfills is collected and distributed to those in need. At the same time, this helps reduce environmental impact, particularly methane emissions from food waste,” he said during a visit to Jetsons Neighbourhood, here.
