Kota Kinabalu: Sabah was brought into Malaysia under dubious circumstances by British and Malayan leaders and, subsequently, misled about the terms of the Federation, according to Datuk Dr Johan Ariffin A. Samad in his latest book, “Sabah Rocky Road to Malaysia”.
"Reading my book, you can sense the injustice of how Federalism has stunted Sabah’s growth over the years through political manipulation and highly centralised control,” said Joe, as he is often known.
“I have also been frank of Sabah’s failed leadership and failure to take ownership of its own shortcomings. Sabah leaders are equally to blame,” he said at his book’s launch at the State Library in Tanjung Aru.
It was officiated by Sabah Invest Berhad Chairman Datuk Roger Chin. The book, is a collection of essays tracing the State’s journey from a British colony to its present state in Malaysia.
