New book explores Sabah’s role in Malaysia, oil disputes
Chin and Joe show the newly-launched book.
KOTA KINABALU: Veteran Sabah author Datuk Joe Samad launched his third book, Sabah's Rocky Road to Malaysia, at the State Library in Tanjung Aru on Thursday.

The book examines Sabah’s history from the British colonial era to the present, including issues surrounding the formation of Malaysia, oil revenue disputes and Federal political control.

Joe said Sabah’s story has been largely overlooked in Malaysian history, which he said focuses mainly on Peninsular Malaysia.

He said the book highlights how centralised Federal control has affected Sabah’s development, while also acknowledging shortcomings within the State’s own leadership.
