Union hopes eligible Sabahans will seize opportunity

Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Government Teachers’ Union (KGKS) hopes the recruitment of 20,000 Education Service Officers (PPP) Grade DG9 on a contract basis or Contract of Service (CoS) will help meet the demand for teachers due to the increase in students entering Year One starting next year.

Its President Murkam Hussien said the union supports the Ministry move which, he said, reflects the government’s commitment to strengthening the national education agenda.

“KGKS anticipates that following the Government’s decision to allow six-year-old children to voluntarily enter Year One next year, the number of students will increase (six and seven-year-old children).

“To accommodate the increase in students, the number of teachers should also be increased... that is why KGKS fully supports this noble effort by KPM,” said Murkam.

The large-scale exercise is part of the Ministry of Education’s early preparations for the implementation of the Malaysia Education Plan (RPM) 2026-2035, in addition to supporting the voluntary entry of six-year-old children into Year One next year.

Murkam hopes that eligible local residents of Sabah can take advantage of this opportunity, thereby contributing to the success of the national education agenda.
