Sabah Education Director Datuk Raisin Saidin said the teaching profession requires resilience, patience and sincerity, particularly when facing challenges before and after entering service.

He noted that applications for teaching positions remain high, with many candidates waiting extended periods before appointment.

Kota Kinabalu: KOTA KINABALU: Fiesta Mega Raya (FMR) 2026 is set to be the largest and most prestigious Hari Raya celebration in Sabah, taking place from March 7 to 18, at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC), here.
“Those who receive the opportunity must appreciate the responsibility entrusted to them,” he said during a briefing for Education Service Officers Grade DG9 at the Dewan SMK Merpati, here, recently.

“All teachers who have been posted are trained and ready to serve anywhere, including rural and remote areas,” he added.

The briefing covered permanent, interim and contract appointments for primary and secondary schools.

“This posting must be accepted willingly because you chose this profession yourself,” he said.

He reminded teachers not to forget the sacrifices parents make in sending their children to school, hoping they will become useful members of society.

He said that teachers who find the profession unsuitable and act without sincerity could jeopardise students’ futures.

“I do not want to see the future of Sabah’s children affected by irresponsible attitudes and actions. This is a firm reminder,” he said, while acknowledging the contributions and dedication of teachers.

He said teaching approaches today differ from the past, in line with changing times and social media development, which means teachers’ behaviour is constantly observed by the public, including in remote areas.

Additionally, he pointed out four key matters requiring educators’ attention, namely, loving students responsibly while safeguarding their emotional and mental well-being and being careful that affection is not misinterpreted.

This also includes respecting colleagues to build strong school teams, maintaining good relations with parents as schools cannot function without their support and avoiding any actions that could tarnish the teaching profession’s image and public trust.
