KOTA KINABALU: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim urged the Selangor government to cancel or relocate its plan for a centralized pig farm in Bukit Tagar, citing environmental impact and residents’ concerns.

The matter was raised in a Cabinet meeting and will be discussed with the Selangor Menteri Besar. The project should be moved to a more suitable site if it cannot be cancelled.

Sultan Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah opposed large-scale pig farming in the area but acknowledged the need for controlled small-scale farms for non-Muslim demand.

Sarawak Minister Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah warned against framing the issue around race or religion, emphasizing that the real concern is farm management and location. He also condemned claims linking dietary habits to corruption as irresponsible and harmful to social harmony.
