KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Mineral Management Sdn Bhd (SMM) welcomed the opening of the SGS Mineral Sample Preparation Facility in Sandakan on Wednesday (14 Jan), officiated by Sabah Natural Resources Office secretary Datuk Sernam Singh and witnessed by SMM CEO Natasha Sim.
The facility strengthens Sabah’s mineral exploration and analysis capabilities by improving data accuracy, traceability and turnaround time through localised sample preparation, reducing reliance on out-of-state testing.

SGS (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd managing director Ben Lv said future Phase Two and Three developments are planned, subject to approvals and market demand, to expand in-state testing and analytical services.

MM said the investment supports Sabah’s goal of responsible, transparent and well-regulated mineral resource management while strengthening the state’s mining ecosystem.
