CAIRO: The Sabah Government has signed a memorandum of understanding on fatwa affairs and knowledge development with Egypt’s Darul Ifta, an internationally recognised fatwa authority.
The cooperation, covering expertise sharing and training in fatwa and Islamic scholarship, was formalised by Local Government and Housing Minister and Sabah Religious Affairs Exco Datuk Mohd Arifin Mohd Arif and Egypt’s Grand Mufti Prof Dr Nazir Mohamad Ayyad at Darul Ifta’s office here.

Arifin said the agreement realised a long-planned vision to strengthen Islamic knowledge and expertise based on Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jamaah.
“Previously I visited and sought the support of the Egyptian Mufti and, with continued efforts involving Muis, Jheains, the Sabah Mufti’s Office, the Sabah Attorney-General’s Chambers, the Malaysian Embassy in Cairo and Yayasan Sabah officers in Cairo, the initiative has now culminated in the signing of this MoU,” he said.
Egypt’s Mufti expressed hope that the collaboration would foster Islamic fraternity and further strengthen syariah, propagation, research and Islamic scholarship through the sharing of expertise from Darul Ifta scholars.
