Kota Kinabalu: A year-end village adoption programme is helping Tambunan’s rural communities thrive.
“A key component of the one-day programme is education support. Six high-potential pupils from SK Pegalan Kusob will receive monthly financial assistance of RM100 from January to December 2026,” said KDCA Putrajaya Chairman Severinus Tukah.

He added that community facilities were also improved with the donation of 30 plastic chairs for multipurpose use, which were officially handed over to the village head of Kampung Pegalan Kusob.
Organised by the KDCA Putrajaya Coordinating Body (KDCA Putrajaya) in partnership with the Sabahan Welfare and Social Group (SWAG), the Village Adoption Programme 2025 was held at Kampung Makatip and Kampung Pegalan Kusob.
Building on last year’s project, the initiative focuses on sustainability and inclusivity in Sabah’s rural villages.
The programme also launched a fundraising drive to help Rumah Kebajikan Makatip purchase a minivan for daily operations and logistics.
An initial contribution of RM3,000 was presented, but additional funds are needed, as a new vehicle is estimated to cost around RM150,000.
The initiative was carried out in collaboration with the Sabah Education Department and the Tambunan District Education Office, reflecting strong cooperation between government agencies and non-governmental organisations.
Tukah said the programme went beyond material support by strengthening ties between volunteers, agencies, and villagers.
“The Kampung Angkat programme is about long-term impact. By supporting education, basic facilities and welfare services, we are investing in the future of these communities,” he said.
He added that the initiative, launched during the season of gratitude, aimed to foster goodwill and unity while laying the foundation for continued cooperation.
Tukah called on the public to contribute by making donations, which can be made directly to Badan Penyelaras KDCA Putrajaya at Alliance Bank Malaysia Berhad, Putrajaya branch, account number 160130010001954, with the reference: “Pusat Kebajikan Kg. Makatip, Tambunan, Sabah, Malaysia.”
Organisers also expressed confidence that the programme would serve as a sustainable model for community empowerment, ensuring rural development efforts remain inclusive and community-driven.
