SANDAKAN: The need to establish a private hospital in Sandakan is urgent to ease the strain on Duchess of Kent Hospital (HDOK).
Elopura Assemblyman Calvin Chong said the need is driven by the rising number of patients following an increase in population density in the district and surrounding areas.
The matter was discussed during a meeting between Sandakan Parti Warisan representatives, led by Chong, and HDOK Director Dr Fahmie Othman, which focused on challenges in healthcare services, patient welfare and hospital infrastructure requirements.
Chong said Dr Fahmie informed them that HDOK currently serves nearly 900,000 residents, covering Sandakan and several other districts, including Kinabatangan, Beluran, Telupid, Tongod and rural areas.
