Jail, fine for splashing red paint
The charge under Section 427 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of between one and five years or with fine or both, on conviction.
Kota Kinabalu: A 24-year-old man was fined RM5,000 or eight months in jail by the Magistrate’s Court, here, for committing mischief by splashing red paint on a car and a house.

Shahrul Iqmal Saidin pleaded guilty before Magistrate Dzul Elmy Yunus to causing damage exceeding RM25 to a vehicle and the front area of a house in Luyang on Jan 2 at 12.50pm.

The prosecution told the court that on the day in question, the complainant was inside his house when he noticed a strong petrol-like smell.”**

Upon checking outside, the complainant discovered red paint splashed around the front compound of his house and on his car parked outside the gate.

Two notes were also found attached to the car windscreen and house gate, containing phone numbers and a message demanding debt payment.

Investigations revealed that the complainant had borrowed money via Facebook in November 2025 but failed to make repayments, raising concerns for his family’s safety.

The complainant subsequently lodged a police report, leading to the arrest of Shahrul by the Commercial Crime Investigation Division of Kota Kinabalu police.

Investigations confirmed that Shahrul had committed mischief by splashing red liquid onto the complainant’s vehicle and house, causing damages exceeding RM25.

In a separate case, a 27-year-old man, Naironsius Damasius, was jailed eight weeks for possession of stolen cables. 

He pleaded guilty to having seven rolls of cable without a satisfactory explanation for how he obtained them on Jan 11 at 2.40pm along Jalan KKIP 2, Sepanggar.

Naironsius was charged under Section 22A(1) of the Minor Offences Ordinance (Sabah), which carries a fine of up to RM100, imprisonment of up to three months, or both. 

The prosecution told the court that Naironsius was stopped by police, and the cables were found near him.
