RANAU: Police here arrested a foreign carpenter after he threatened to kill a fellow foreigner over an alleged video recording related to a renovation job on Monday.
The 41-year-old male victim was in his car parked in front of the Pekan Ranau Fruit and Vegetable Market when he was approached by the suspect.
The 58-year-old male suspect ordered the victim to get out of the car and threatened to kill him if he refused to get out of the car. As soon as he got out of his vehicle, he was kicked by the suspect.
The victim also noticed an iron chain wrapped around the suspect’s hand which was concealed with a piece of cloth.
The problem was due to the suspect accusing the victim’s son of recording a video of him on the phone, having a conversation about the price of repairing his employer’s house worth RM62,000 and that the matter had reached his employer’s knowledge.
However, the victim said his son did not make the video recording and never told his employer about the matter.
The victim also received information from his brother that the suspect had sharpened a Y10 iron rod which he said he would use to stab the victim.
Acting on information, on the same day, at approximately 11.01pm, the suspect was arrested by officers and members of the Ranau IPD Criminal Investigation Division at an unnumbered house in Kg Paka 2 Ranau.
The arrest was made under Section 506 of the Penal Code for threatening to cause harm and Section 323 of the Penal Code for causing minor injuries to another individual.
If found guilty, the suspect can be sentenced to imprisonment for up to 7 years, or a fine, or both (Section 506), and imprisonment for up to 1 year, or a fine of up to RM2,000, or both (Section 323).
