TAWAU: Parti Warisan Sri Tanjong Assemblyman Justin Wong expressed frustration after receiving complaints from traders over defects in the recently upgraded meat stalls at Pasar Sri Tanjong.
The project, which began in September last year, was supposed to take just over a month but extended to three months, yet still displayed numerous shortcomings, Wong said during a site visit on Tuesday.
Problems identified include rough ceiling finishes, peeling paint, improperly repaired tiles, unsuited drainage for meat handling, water leakage, and unclean floors.
“This project took a long time, yet the results are very disappointing and do not meet the expectations of the traders,” Wong said. Traders had to operate temporarily along pedestrian walkways during the upgrade, adding to their difficulties.
Wong urged the Tawau Municipal Council (MPT) to reassess the quality of work and implement immediate improvements to safeguard traders’ comfort, cleanliness, and welfare.
