SANDAKAN: A total of 24 drug dealers and addicts were arrested in a series of operations here between Jan 2 and Jan 12.
The integrated operations were conducted by the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division (BSJND) of the Sandakan District Police Headquarters, based on intelligence information and routine patrols.
District Police Chief ACP George Abd Rakman said the operations were carried out to curb drug distribution and abuse activities that have been increasingly prevalent in urban areas and settlements.
Among the locations were Kampung Sungai Kayu Batu 7, Bandar Ramai-Ramai, Flat Sri Taman Batu 3½, Batu 14, Taman Sibuga, Kampung Sungai Batang Batu 10, as well as several housing areas and public flats around Sandakan.
Those arrested included both men and women, comprising Malaysian and non-Malaysian nationals, suspected of being involved in drug possession and self-administration of dangerous drugs.
Inspections and preliminary urine screening tests found all suspects to be positive for methamphetamine (syabu), ketamine, amphetamine and cannabis.
All suspects were arrested and investigated under Section 12(2) and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, depending on the offences committed.
The suspects were taken to the BSJND office at the District Police Headquarters for documentation before being detained at the IPD Sandakan lock-up for further action and detailed investigations.
The implementation of these operations reflects the police’s continued commitment to intensifying efforts to combat drug-related crimes in order to ensure the safety and well-being of the local community.
