Man fined for keeping stolen property
The offence under Section 411 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to five years or fine or both, on conviction.
Kota Kinabalu: A 42-year-old man was fined RM1,400 or jailed seven months by the Magistrate’s Court, here, for keeping stolen property.

Edward Lim pleaded guilty before Magistrate Marilyn Kelvin to having stolen a Nike shirt and a toy car belonging to one Muhammad Zainal Ramlan at about 2.50pm on Jan 3, this year, at DBundle Mania, ITCC Penampang,

The prosecution told the court that the complainant, a store employee, detained Lim after noticing that he had concealed the items without making payment.

A police report was lodged and Lim was arrested at the premises together with the stolen goods.

In another case, two individuals were separately fined for offences under the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953.

Gracie Arabella, 20, and Dannyshah Saini pleaded guilty separately before Magistrate Wan Farrah Farriza Wan Ghazali to committing the offences.

Gracie was fined RM1,500 or jailed one month for buying four illegal public lottery tickets without a licence at Donggongon town, in Penampang, on Dec 11, 2025, at 3.30pm.

The court heard that police, acting on “Op Dadu”, inspected Gracie and seized lottery slips, which were later confirmed by a gambling expert to be illegal lottery records.

Meanwhile, Dannyshah Saini was fined RM1,200 or jailed one month for gambling in a public place.

He admitted to committing the offence at about 12.45pm on Dec 26, 2025, outside a restaurant in Manggatal Baru.

The prosecution said police found Dannyshah operating online gambling activities using a mobile phone. 

A gambling expert later confirmed that a concealed website link found on the phone was used for online betting.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Akaash Singh and Inspector Yusdi Basri prosecuted.
