KENINGAU: A deep pothole on Jalan Kimanis-Keningau, near Taman Arnab, is difficult to detect especially during a foggy night.
It is no longer an ordinary road defect, but rather a dangerous trap that puts the safety of road users at risk.
It is understood that dozens of vehicle owners have become victims, with reports of flat tires, broken rims and various serious damages.
The rainy conditions and limited visibility make the pothole almost impossible to avoid, increasing the risk of accidents, especially at night.
Road users describe the situation as a hidden trap from the Japanese war era – invisible, but “eating” victims one by one.
The route that should be the heart of communication has now turned into a safety hazard. This route is increasingly synonymous with defects that are constantly waiting for victims.
Apart from external damage, many vehicle owners have also reported serious damage to the vehicle’s suspension system, involving a series of main components such as springs, control arms (lower arms) and shock absorbers, including disruption to the steering system.
The damage not only increases the cost of repairs, but also increases the risk of losing control of the vehicle, especially at certain speeds and when the road surface is wet.
This situation requires immediate action by the authorities – comprehensive repairs, temporary safety measures such as clear markings and adequate lighting, and constant monitoring – to prevent worse incidents.
Every delay leaves room for danger; road user safety cannot wait until a tragedy occurs before action is taken to resolve the issue.
