Flood disaster declared in KK

KOTA KINABALU: A flood disaster was officially declared in Kota Kinabalu at 9pm on Saturday following reports and ground assessments received by district disaster agencies, according to Mayor Datuk Seri Sabin Samitah.

Sabin said the declaration was made after agencies under the District Disaster Management Committee confirmed flooding affecting parts of the city on Jan 3.

He said the decision was aimed at enabling faster coordination of aid, logistics and safety measures for affected residents.

Sabin added that a temporary evacuation centre was opened at Dewan Masjid Al Munir in Kampung Darau to house flood victims.
