LABUAN: GRS-PH will have done better in the just-ended Sabah election if not for two portals giving space to a controversial businessman to hurl unsubstantiated allegations against various Sabah politicians and attempting to implicate the Prime Minister as well just 24 hours before the voting.
The killer blow implicating Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was aired on the eve of the election where the businessman attempted to portray the Prime Minister as playing a double game in the “Sabah mining scandal”, political activist Lau Seng Kiat said.
He said the result was that DAP was wiped out, leaving Pakatan Harapan with only one seat in the election, and even that being a candidate loaned to it by GRS at the last minute and GRS having its majority in the State Assembly greatly reduced.
“The impact of the year-long so-called exposes by Malaysiakini on the allegations by the businessman who allegedly tried and failed to bribe his way to get a mining ban imposed by Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji lifted cannot be discounted.
