Kota Kinabalu: KOTA KINABALU: Fiesta Mega Raya (FMR) 2026 is set to be the largest and most prestigious Hari Raya celebration in Sabah, taking place from March 7 to 18, at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC), here.
“After the tahlil prayer gathering, we will be seeking legal help and are appealing to anyone with the knowledge or expertise to assist us,” he said.

It is understood that Mahamud had just completed Friday prayers at the Al-Falah Mosque in Kepayan prior to the incident. He was a well-known and friendly figure within the local religious community.

The Kota Kinabalu Blood Bank, along with several prominent individuals, extended their condolences, as Mahamud had donated more than 100 pints throughout his lifetime.

“Without a doubt, many lives have been saved through his donations. The late Mahamud’s service and kindness in donating blood to save others are of immense value and will always be remembered,” they said.

Viral dashcam footage of the incident, which occurred at 1.30 pm on Dec 26, shows a Toyota Hilux allegedly moving from the middle lane into the rightmost lane before colliding with the motorcyclist.

Although the victim was wearing a helmet, the impact caused his head to strike the road with severe force, resulting in fatal injuries.

The 50-year-old Hilux driver, who was heading home towards Bundusan, was unharmed. Paramedics arrived shortly after the collision and pronounced Mahamud dead at the scene.

Several social media users expressed anger and frustration over what they described as reckless driving behaviour by 4WD and double-cab vehicle drivers.

Commenters on Daily Express’s Facebook page claimed such vehicles are often driven aggressively, tailgating other motorists, speeding and treating public roads like race tracks.

They waited for stricter enforcement and monitoring by authorities, while others urged the victim’s family to pursue legal action, stressing that no punishment could truly compensate for a life lost.

Many offered condolences, noting that the driver’s alleged negligence had left a wife without a husband and children without a father.

Under the Sabah Group Personal Accident (GPA) insurance scheme, accidental deaths involving Sabahans aged between 30 days and 80 years are covered for up to RM10,000, with an additional RM500 provided for funeral expenses.
