Kota Kinabalu: Four Sabahan carers from CarersPlus Asia, a leading Sabah-based provider of training, accreditation and placement services for caregivers in Malaysia, have been selected for further training with ReU Living, a premier provider of senior living and rehabilitation services in the country in Kuala Lumpur.
This collaboration marked the beginning of a groundbreaking partnership in Malaysia’s home care sector, and sets the stage for raising the standards of caregiving across the country, with these carers representing a new wave of professional home care workers.

For some of the carers, the flight to Kuala Lumpur was their first time on a plane, while for others, it’s the first time leaving Sabah.
But for all four of these carers, the trip symbolizes much more than just a professional training opportunity. It signifies a major leap forward in their careers and a milestone in the ongoing evolution of aged care in Malaysia.
“I’ve lived in a rural kampung all my life,” shared one carer, visibly excited and nervous ahead of her journey. When Madam Maria (CarersPlus Asia founder) told us about this opportunity to train at one of Malaysia’s best facilities, it felt like a dream come true.”
Over the next three months, the carers will receive hands-on training at ReU’s state-of-the-art facilities, including ReU Living@MiCassa, situated in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, and a new facility in Mid Valley, which specializes in post-surgery care and services for medical tourists.
Maria Kinson, the driving force behind CarersPlus Asia’s initiative, explained, “Our carers are enrolled in a comprehensive one-year programme leading to SLDN SKM-3 Certification for Home Care.
But certification alone is not enough. We want them to experience the best of what the industry has to offer, and that’s exactly what ReU Living provides.” The collaboration between CarersPlus Asia and ReU Living is a natural fit, driven by a shared vision for the future of aged care in Malaysia.
Estee Tan, CEO of ReU Living, expressed her excitement about the partnership: “We believe that quality care starts with quality training. Together, we’re creating a skilled workforce that will meet the needs of Malaysia’s ageing population.”
In addition to classroom learning, the carers will stay in ReU Living’s on-site accommodation, immersing themselves in the day-to-day reality of professional caregiving.
The partnership represents a significant shift in how caregiving professionals are trained in Malaysia. Rather than isolated training programmes, CarersPlus Asia is focusing on real-world, industry-driven partnerships that expose carers to cutting-edge care techniques and environments.
Kinson added, “Raising standards in caregiving requires collaboration, not competition. When training providers, employers, and government agencies work together, that’s when we can make meaningful, lasting change.”
The partnership between CarersPlus Asia and ReU Living is just the beginning. It is part of a broader initiative aimed at raising the bar for caregiving across Malaysia.
As the country’s elderly population grows, the need for well-trained, skilled carers is becoming increasingly urgent. CarersPlus Asia is committed to meeting that need by recruiting and training carers who are committed to professional development and excellence in care.
“By providing structured pathways into caregiving careers, we’re helping to address the skills shortage while also creating long-term career opportunities,” said Greg King, Director of Strategy and Innovation at CarersPlus Asia.
The training programme is not just about four carers traveling to Kuala Lumpur — it’s about shaping the future of Malaysia’s care industry, where high standards of care are built on quality training and professional development.
The carers returning from this experience will be equipped not only with certifications but also with the practical, hands-on skills needed to deliver exceptional care in the homes and communities of Malaysia.
As the caregiving sector in Malaysia continues to evolve, the partnership between CarersPlus Asia and ReU Living is helping to lay the groundwork for a more skilled, competent and compassionate workforce, one that is prepared to meet the demands of the future.
