KOTA KINABALU: Kepayan Assemblyman Chin Tek Ming has urged tighter monitoring and regular cleaning schedules in high-traffic areas near Kota Kinabalu International Airport to protect public hygiene and the city’s image.
His call follows complaints from residents and business operators about rubbish left uncollected for weeks near Bonk Cyclist Cafe and My Corner Food Court, just a two-minute drive from the airport.
Residents said the accumulated waste caused foul odours, mosquito breeding and potential health risks, disrupting daily life and business activities.
Chin coordinated with relevant authorities, and workers were deployed to clear the rubbish, which has now been removed.
“The cleanliness of the living environment is a basic right of the people,” he said, urging authorities to act efficiently to prevent similar issues.
He also thanked residents for raising concerns and said his team would continue monitoring local matters closely.
Residents with livelihood-related issues may contact Chin at 019-852 1339 or team member Danny Tham at 016-831 7228.
