TAWAU: A 32-year-old motorcyclist was killed after crashing into a lorry that had been left stranded for two days along the left lane near the Sungai Burong roundabout on Jalan Apas–Balung at about 4.50am on Friday.
The victim, identified as Hassan Ambo Latta, a factory worker, was riding a Yamaha LC and was believed to be on his way from his home in Batu 15 Jalan Apas to work when the accident occurred.

Police said the collision likely happened because the rider did not notice the stationary lorry in the dark, compounded by the absence of street lighting at the location.
District police chief ACP Jasmin Hussin said medical officers from Balung Health Clinic confirmed Hassan died at the scene from severe injuries after he struck the rear of the lorry and was thrown into the right lane.
He said a 46-year-old local lorry driver has been detained for failing to place warning signs or safety devices, adding that the fertiliser-laden vehicle had broken down on December 17 and remained unmoved in an unlit area, with investigations under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
