PENAMPANG: Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) acting president Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam (

Speaking in his closing address at the 40th PBS Annual Delegates Conference at the Kadazan Dusun Cultural Association Hall here on Thursday, Joachim said members should take a broader view on government appointments, citing Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor’s decision to accommodate leaders from other parties to maintain stability.

He acknowledged dissatisfaction among some members who were not given positions but said the leadership had listened to their concerns, adding that PBS, which won seven seats in the 17th Sabah state election, is grooming new leaders based on calibre rather than age or background.
Joachim said strengthening youth leadership remains a priority, praising the PBS Youth Wing for its role during the critical second week of the recent campaign, which he said contributed to his narrow victory.
Rejecting perceptions that PBS is a Kadazandusun Murut-based party, he called for the party to move beyond racial lines, citing Lumadan assemblyman Datuk Ruslan Muharam’s re-election as proof and saying unity is key to keeping PBS relevant as support for local parties grows.
