Ewon checks up on Petroventure Energy storage and refinery site
Ewon who is also cum Minister of Industry, Entrepreneurship and Transport, expressed the Sabah State Government’s support for strategic investments that have the potential to strengthen the state’s downstream oil and gas ecosystem.
SIPITANG: Deputy Chief Minister of Sabah III Datuk Ewon Benedick, conducted an official site visit to the Petroleum Oil Storage and Refinery Plant Project owned by Petroventure Energy Sdn Bhd, located at Lot 2.4, Sipitang Oil and Gas Industrial Park (SOGIP) here recently.

The visit was aimed at reviewing the proposed development and strategic planning of the high-impact project, which is expected to serve as a key catalyst for downstream oil and gas industrial growth in Sabah, particularly in the southwest coastal region.

Also present during the site visit were Datuk Thomas Logijin, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Industry, Entrepreneurship and Transport; Mohamad Azmir Bin Datuk Ramli, Chief Executive Officer of the Sabah Oil and Gas Development Corporation (SOGDC); and Dr. Mohd Sham Hj Mohd Yasin, Executive Chairman cum Chief Executive Officer of Petroventure Energy Sdn Bhd.

The delegation was joined by officers from SOGDC, the Petroventure Energy Sdn Bhd team, the Petroventure Bayu Energy Sdn Bhd team, Sipitang District Officer, Abd. Karim AM Zahari, as well as invited guests.

During the site briefing, Petroventure Energy Sdn Bhd presented an overview of the project, which encompasses the development of a large-scale petroleum storage terminal and a modern refinery complex, supported by comprehensive infrastructure including deep-sea jetties, utilities systems, industrial safety facilities, and environmentally compliant management systems.

In his remarks, Ewon who is also cum Minister of Industry, Entrepreneurship and Transport, expressed the Sabah State Government’s support for strategic investments that have the potential to strengthen the state’s downstream oil and gas ecosystem.

Apart from that, he said this could also create high-skilled employment opportunities for Sabahans, enhance value-added processing of petroleum resources, and stimulate local and regional economic growth.

He also emphasized the importance of strict compliance with regulatory requirements, industrial safety standards, and environmental sustainability throughout the project’s development and operational phases.

Dr. Mohd Sham conveyed his appreciation to the Sabah State Government and relevant agencies for their continued support and collaboration.

He reaffirmed Petroventure Energy Sdn Bhd’s commitment to implement the project in a phased, competitive, and sustainable manner, in line with Sabah’s long-term industrial and energy development aspirations.

The site visit reflects the strong collaboration between the public and private sectors in advancing strategic energy infrastructure projects and reinforces SOGIP’s position as a future key oil and gas industrial hub in the Borneo region.
