GRS may stay out of bypolls

Kota Kinabalu: Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) is willing to stay out of the simultaneous by-elections for the Kinabatangan parliamentary seat and the Lamag State Assembly (DUN) seat scheduled for Jan. 24.

“It has not been confirmed yet, but in principle, we are prepared to give way,” Chief Minister and GRS Chairman, Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor, said.

He said a final decision would be made based on consultation and agreement among all parties, in the interest of the people and the stability of the state administration.

“So far, it is likely that we will not contest. We will show respect and give way to the party that previously won, coincidentally they are part of the current State Government.

The vacancies in the Kinabatangan parliamentary seat and Lamag DUN arose following the passing of their incumbent, the late Datuk Seri Panglima Bung Moktar Radin.
