Kota Kinabalu: There is a need for the Federal Government to recognise the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) without any conditions, according to Prof Dato Sri Dr Wilson Yong.
Describing it as a critical issue of fairness and dignity in Malaysia’s multicultural education system, the veteran with over 35 years of service in Sabah’s higher education sector said the recognition should be without any conditions.
In a statement, Yong emphasised that independent Chinese secondary schools – which offer the UEC – are community-built institutions that have stood the test of time through decades of grassroots perseverance and self-funding.
“Their academic strength is undeniable,” he said, noting that the UEC is already accepted by more than 1,000 universities across the globe, a testament to its international credibility.
