Kota Kinabalu: Nearly 1,000 women entrepreneurs in Sabah received equipment assistance from the State Government through the Sabah Department of Women’s Affairs (JHEWA) since 2016.
JHEWA Sabah Director Haslina Ismail said a total of 927 women entrepreneurs have benefited from the support, which has strengthened their management capabilities and enabled them to expand their businesses more proactively and competitively.

“The JHEWANITA Entrepreneurship Programme emphasises the development of women entrepreneurs who are sustainable, resilient, and adaptable. This not only supports the women’s development agenda but also enhances their role within Sabah’s economic ecosystem.
“Through various activities, including 32 skills courses throughout the year, talks, and experience-sharing sessions, participants gain knowledge, improve their skills, and build self-confidence in the field of entrepreneurship,” she said during the 2025 JHEWANITA Entrepreneurship Programme held on Tuesday.
The programme was graced by the presence of the wife of the Head of State, Toh Puan Faridah Tussin.
Haslina also stressed that JHEWA remains committed to serving as a strategic partner in guiding, monitoring, and connecting Sabah’s women entrepreneurs with broader business opportunities.
“This includes access to capital, technical training, digital mentoring, and international markets, which will act as catalysts for the rise of more women entrepreneurs,” she added.
She hoped the programme would continue to provide a platform for learning and strategic networking to help women entrepreneurs grow and remain competitive.
The event also featured a talk session and an Entrepreneurship Inspiration segment delivered by Sabah’s 2024 Iconic Woman, Mardiana Made.
