Loners accounted for 69,771 votes. Only five women elected to Assembly

Kota Kinabalu: The 74 independent candidates who contested in the 17th Sabah State Election (PRN17) last Saturday garnered 69,771 votes altogether or 14.33 per cent of the total 1,148,476 votes.

The independent candidate with the most votes was Inanam’s Roland Chia Ming Shen with 6,489, while the independent candidate with the least votes was Tamparuli’s Samson S. Koroh @ Razali Suffian with only 14.

The seat with the most independent candidates was Tulid with six out of 14 contestants being independents. The seat with the highest number of independent candidate votes was Tanjung Kapor with a total of 5,917. Kuamut had the least independent candidate votes, with only 32. 

Out of the 40 seats, independent candidates won five, that being Bandau, Petagas, Pintasan, Tulid and Kukusan.
