Kota Kinabalu: A total of 47 youths with disabilities (PWDs) in Sabah and Selangor have completed industry-based skills training under the Economic Empowerment Programme (EEP), an initiative supported by Allianz Malaysia Berhad through its Allianz4Good arm to boost employability among disabled young adults.
The programme, implemented by Sabah Cheshire Home and Selangor Cheshire Home, is aimed at equipping PWD youths with recognised vocational skills to improve their chances of entering the workforce and achieving financial independence.
In Selangor, 32 participants completed hospitality and culinary training, which included modules on housekeeping, barista work and interpersonal skills. The graduation ceremony was held in August at the Selangor Cheshire Home in Batu Caves.
In Sabah, 15 trainees underwent the Certificate in Basic Pastry Skills course accredited under Sijil Kemahiran Malaysia, covering safety practices, pastry production, and sales and marketing. They sat for the SKM Level 2 pastry examinations before graduating in September at the Raia Hotel, Kota Kinabalu.
Allianz4Good Head Ng Siew Gek said the programme is part of the company’s effort to support structured upskilling for PWD youths so they can secure employment and long-term income stability.
Sabah Cheshire Home President Lawrence Hee Qui Shing said the certification achievements and successful industry placements show the impact of employer collaborations in supporting inclusive training pathways.
Selangor Cheshire Home Advisor Khatijah Sulaiman added that the assistance received has strengthened the organisation’s training and job-coaching framework.
Following the positive outcomes, Allianz Malaysia confirmed it will extend its support for the EEP into its second year.
