Kota Kinabalu: The Malaysian International Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MICCI) Sabah Branch affirmed its strong commitment to deepening collaboration with the Sabah government.
According to MICCI Sabah chair Datuk Susan Chang the chamber aims to significantly contribute to the state’s economic progress and prosperity.
Following the official appointments of Chief Minister Datuk Seri Haji Hajiji bin Haji Noor and the new State Cabinet, MICCI, Susan and her members extended their heartfelt congratulations and reiterated its unwavering support.
Susan emphasised the chamber’s readiness to work hand-in-hand with the new administration to advance its mandates, vision, and mission.
She expressed confidence that this renewed partnership would further empower businesses, industries, civil society organisations, and the wider community, fostering stronger economic growth, enhanced competitiveness, and sustained social stability across Sabah.
As an international chamber with an extensive global network, MICCI is uniquely positioned to serve as a crucial conduit for Sabah’s economic ambitions.
The Chamber is committed to Establishing International Linkages: Facilitating connections between Sabah businesses and international markets, opening doors for new trade opportunities and partnerships; Connecting Local Businesses: Bridging local enterprises with relevant trade associations worldwide, enabling knowledge transfer, market access, and capacity building; and Promoting Sabah Globally: Actively showcasing Sabah as a premier destination for trade, tourism, and investment on the international stage.
MICCI envisions the state as the undeniable gateway to the Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) region.
The chamber is dedicated to leveraging its robust networks to facilitate strategic international partnerships that will directly benefit Sabah’s economy and elevate its regional standing.
In anticipation of SIE2026 (Sabah International Expo 2026), Susan said through its representation in the BIMP-EAGA Business Council, MICCI will play an active role as a bridge between Sabah and international markets.
This includes, she said supporting targeted initiatives to attract greater Foreign Direct Investments (FDIs), strengthening regional economic cooperation, and highlighting Sabah’s strategic importance as a hub for business and tourism within the region.
According to Susan, MICCI Sabah remains highly optimistic about the continued progress in development initiatives and the attraction of significant foreign direct investments into the state.
The chamber underscores the critical importance of several key areas to accelerate Sabah’s economic dynamism and position it as a preferred destination for global investors by Strengthening State Infrastructure: Advocating for and supporting improvements in physical infrastructure to enhance connectivity and operational efficiency for businesses; Improving Regulatory Efficiency: Collaborating with the government to streamline bureaucratic processes and create a more transparent and predictable regulatory environment; and Fostering A Business-Friendly Ecosystem: Contributing to the development of policies and initiatives that nurture entrepreneurship, support business growth, and attract skilled talent.
Susan concluded by stating the chamber’s eagerness to deepen its collaboration with the State Government.
