KOTA KINABALU: A moderate earthquake struck the Talaud Islands in Indonesia on Thursday morning, giving nearby communities a brief scare but causing no reported damage.
The 5.0-magnitude quake, recorded at 11.31am at a depth of 120km, was centred about 116km east of the islands at coordinates 4.0° North and 127.6° East.
MetMalaysia confirmed that the tremor posed no tsunami threat to Malaysia, offering reassurance to coastal residents accustomed to monitoring regional seismic activity.
