KOTA MARUDU: Some 20 women from the B40 group in Kudat and Kota Marudu benefited from the Sewing Skills Capacity Building Project, aimed at improving their family income.
Industrial Development and Entrepreneurship (MIDE) Ministry’s Deputy Permanent Secretary Moira David said the programme provided participants with early exposure to knowledge and practical skills, enabling them to become more independent and capable of running their own businesses.
“This programme is highly significant as it aligns with the State Government’s agenda to empower the people’s economy, particularly women from the B40 group in rural areas.
“As a ministry driving industrial and entrepreneurial development, we are committed to producing competitive human capital, strengthening women’s roles as catalysts of family economy and ensuring that the skills acquired through this programme become a sustainable and viable source of income,” she said.
Moira expressed appreciation to Hibiscus Petroleum Berhad and Sedcovest Holdings Sdn Bhd for their cooperation and contributions, describing the initiative as an exemplary public-private collaboration model in strengthening rural communities.
“Collaborative efforts with corporate bodies such as Hibiscus Petroleum and Sedcovest are very important and deeply appreciated, as rural community development requires the participation of all parties.
“This joint approach not only helps to strengthen the local economy but also provides opportunities for low-income households to improve their standard of living and become more self-reliant,” she said at the closing ceremony.
Moira hopes the participants would continue to be active in expanding their businesses and make full use of social media platforms to market their products.
