Malaysian pianist Vincent Ong among finalists at prestigious Chopin competition
KUALA LUMPUR: Young Malaysian pianist Vincent Ong (pic) has made a remarkable achievement by being selected as one of the 11 finalists of the 19th International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition, currently underway in Warsaw, Poland.

According to the official competition website, a total of 642 applicants from 28 countries vied for a spot in this prestigious event. After a rigorous selection process, 171 participants advanced to the preliminary rounds, with only 11 finalists, including Ong, securing a place in the final stage.

The finalists represent a diverse range of countries, including China, Japan, the United States, Canada, Poland, Georgia, and Malaysia.

Ong is competing alongside distinguished pianists such as Kevin Chen (Canada), Eric Lu (USA), and Piotr Alexewicz (Poland).

In addition, each pianist will present a piano concerto of their choice, accompanied by the Warsaw National Philharmonic Orchestra.

The 24-year-old from Penang has gained significant attention, with nearly 140,000 views on the official Chopin Institute YouTube channel.

The winners of the competition will be announced on Monday night, Poland time, which will be early Tuesday morning in Malaysia.
