PETALING JAYA: A 16-year-old Form 4 student was killed after being stabbed multiple times by a 14-year-old schoolmate at SMK Bandar Utama Damansara (4) this morning.
Petaling Jaya police chief Shamsudin Mamat said the incident occurred around 9.10am inside one of the school’s female toilets.
A teacher who heard screams rushed to help but the victim had already been fatally injured.
Police arrested the male Form 2 suspect shortly after the incident and seized two sharp weapons believed to have been used in the attack.
The motive is still under investigation, though initial findings indicate no element of bullying or racial issues.
Inspector-General of Police Khalid Ismail described the case as “heartbreaking”, confirming that the victim died at the scene.
The suspect will be remanded at the Petaling Jaya magistrates’ court tomorrow.
Witnesses said the suspect, who was seen walking around the school compound with blood-stained clothes and a knife, told others he had “killed someone”.
Several students who saw him described the situation as terrifying, saying they remained traumatised by what happened.
Education minister Fadhlina Sidek said the ministry has set up a special committee to investigate and dispatched counsellors to provide psychosocial support to students and staff. She assured full cooperation with the ongoing police probe.
Selangor menteri besar Amirudin Shari expressed his condolences to the victim’s family, confirming that the case involved no racial elements.
He said the state government would work with the police and education ministry to strengthen school safety and mental health support for students.
The victim’s body was sent to Universiti Malaya Medical Centre for a post-mortem examination.
