Kota Kinabalu: Gagasan Rakyat Tanjung Aru has contributed funds to the Kota Kinabalu Sharks Rugby Club to support the team’s participation in the upcoming Sabah Games (Saga) 2025, which will be held in Tawau.
The donation was presented by the division’s committee member Dr Ritchie Jay Cheng, during a brief ceremony at the team’s training ground in Tanjung Aru on Thursday.
He met with the local youths and encouraged them to uphold their fighting spirit and discipline.
“The Sharks are not only representing our district but also the unity and strength of Sabah’s young generation. Sports bring communities together, regardless of background,” Dr Ritchie said.
He added that grassroots sports should be recognised as part of a broader human and social development agenda, in line with the State government’s efforts to strengthen community cohesion and public well-being since 2020.
“As we approach the next State election, Gagasan Rakyat Tanjung Aru will continue to promote harmony and people-focused progress, supporting youth initiatives in sports and leadership,” he said.
The contribution is expected to help the team with logistics and training as they prepare to face strong opponents from across Sabah in Saga 2025.
He said the initiative reflects the group’s commitment to using sports as a platform for unity and youth empowerment in the State.
