Kota Kinabalu: A 30-year-old Filipino who tried to get on the airplane without flight ticket to Kuala Lumpur to find his relative, was jailed a year.
Magistrate Jessica Ombou Kakayun meted out the sentence to Alsid Patolla who pleaded guilty to the charge against him on Thursday.
Alsid committed the offence by trespassing and entering the restricted area which was the airplane stairs at 9.50pm on Nov 27 this year at the Airside Gate 8 of the Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA), here.
The offence under Section 5(1) of the Protected Areas and Protected Places Act 1959 carries a jail term of up to two years, or a fine of up to RM1,000, or both, on conviction.
The court ordered Alsid to serve the jail sentence from the date of his arrest and upon completing his jail sentence, he was ordered referred to the Immigration Department.
The court heard that Alsid had entered the restricted area without any permit by climbing the gate near the main road and walked about seven kilometres until he found the airplane. He then tried to get on the plane but was detained immediately by the security personnel on duty.
Alsid was further brought to the KKIA police station for further action.
During investigation, Alsid confessed that he wanted to get on the plane to Kuala Lumpur without ticket to find his relative there.
