Kota Kinabalu International Film Festival to feature fictionalised story of Kinabalu Guerillas
A scene from the ‘Silence of the 177’.
Kota Kinabalu: The latest film by prolific local director Marc Abas, “Silence of the 177”, will be screened on the third day of the 13th Kota Kinabalu International Film Festival (KKIFF), at 8pm, at the City Cineplex, City Mall.

The film was adapted from a true event when Japanese soldiers killed 176 local people on Jan 21, 1944 in Petagas, near here.

The locals were members of the Kinabalu Guerrillas who attempted an uprising against the Japanese forces. Since then, the Sabah Government held an annual Heroes’ Day celebration to commemorate these heroes who sacrificed their lives.
