Stealing valuables: Another 23 months for former army personnel

Kota Kinabalu: A former army personnel currently serving 20 months in jail for keeping various stolen valuables was on Thursday handed another 23 months’ jail for a similar offence.Mohd Fakrulruzi Hashim, 35, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Lovely Natasha Charles to keeping the stolen items – two laptops, two handbags, two purses, a gold container and a Malaysian passport – all belonged to one Lo Ching Vui at 10.30pm on Feb 2, this year in a rented room at Taman Mesra, Luyang.ADVERTISEMENT
The charge, under Section 411 of the Penal Code, carries a jail term of up to five years or fine, or both, on conviction.

Counsel Lim Ming Zoong @ Lawrence, representing Fakrulzuri, applied for leniency by saying that he is currently unemployed.

On Aug 9, Fakrulruzi was jailed 20 months by the Magistrate’s Court for committing a similar offence.
Lovely on Thursday ordered Fakrulruzi to serve the sentence from the date of his arrest and also ordered it to run concurrently with his present jail term.

In another case, a 50-year-old man was charged with threatening to injure a man with a machete.
Mohd Yaser Ainal pleaded not guilty to committing the offence against one Alikbin Hamdi Ilung at 11am on Aug 17 at a construction site at Bukit Sepanggar, Mangggatal.
The charge is framed under Section 506 of the Penal Code.
Kelvan in applying for a case management date objected bail because the accused has no identification document.
The court set Sept 23 for case management and ordered Yaser to be remanded further.
